How a bench is put together
How many positions per module
Modules of two, four or six positions, facing each other or in a line, are the norm. Think in modules rather than totals: if the team grows you add another module instead of rebuilding the whole row.
How much width each position needs
A comfortable position starts at 1.20 m wide by 60 cm deep. Below that the monitor sits on top of the person and there is nowhere to rest anything. With two screens or paperwork, add depth before width.
Whether you need screens between positions
A screen between facing positions cuts the sightline and some noise, and takes accessories. Without it the row looks more open, but on positions that are on the phone all day the absence shows.
Where the cabling runs
This is the real advantage over separate desks: a central tray collects the cabling of the whole row and feeds it up through the grommets. It is defined before manufacturing, based on where the outlets are.
When a separate desk works better
If the positions are spread out, or these are management offices, the bench adds nothing: an individual desk pays off there.
