Executive desks: what distinguishes a good one from an expensive one
Materials that withstand daily use, measurements that are used for working and receiving, and the detail that almost no one looks at: where the cable runs.

A good executive desk is not distinguished by the price but by three specific things: the finish of the edges and the surface, whether the measurements allow for working and receiving someone at the same time, and how the wiring is resolved. The rest is appearance, and the appearance falls off after the second year of use.
What materials can withstand daily use?
The surface receives friction, elbow support, keyboard and sometimes coffee. What defines its useful life is the quality of the coating and, above all, the sealing of the edges: that is where moisture enters and that is where a cover begins to rise.
The structure matters less than you think if it is well dimensioned. A desk becomes loose when the joints are few or light, not because of the material of the legs.
What measurements does an executive desk need?
As a base, more depth than an operating station: from 70 to 80 cm deep, so that screen, documents and workspace can fit without everything being on top. The width starts at a comfortable 1.60 m and grows depending on whether people are served in front of the desk.
If clients are received at this desk, it should be thought of as a small meeting table: space on the other side, visitor chairs and some free surface to support documents.
How is the wiring resolved?
Before manufacturing. The gutters under the cover and the cable glands are defined according to where the office outlets are, and that decision cannot be improvised later: adding a pass implies intervening in the cover.
It is the detail that ages an expensive desk the most. A spotless piece of furniture with cables hanging over the side looks worse than a modest, tidy one.

From a catalog when the standard measurements fit the space, which is most common. Customized when you have to take advantage of a complete wall, solve a corner or match the furniture that already exists.
