Reception furniture: measurements, materials and common errors

The reception is the first thing anyone who arrives sees, and it is also a workplace where someone spends the day. The two things rule the measurements: the counter has to look good from the door and function inside, with space, storage and cables resolved.

How tall and long does a reception desk need?

The standing service counter is about 110 cm high, and the interior work surface is about 74 cm, which is the height of a desk. This double height is what allows you to serve while standing and to work seated without the visitor seeing the mess on this side.

Each service station needs around 1.60 m of counter space. If two people serve at the same time, an L-shaped format or a long counter with two defined positions is appropriate.

Standing, sitting or mixed reception?

The mixed type is what works in most offices: anyone who arrives for something brief is served standing, and work is done sitting down the rest of the time. A high reception only requires standing all day; a single drop leaves the visitor looking from above.

How do you make an accessible reception?

With a lower section of the counter, at the height of a person in a wheelchair, which also serves to sign documents or support things. It is defined before manufacturing, because adding it later means remaking the furniture.

It is a detail that is appreciated and that almost no one incorporates, and it does not make the project more expensive if it is thought about from the beginning.

What are the most frequent errors?

Three are repeated: choosing the counter based on the photo and not the actual width of the hall, leaving the computer and telephone wiring unresolved, and forgetting the storage, so things end up visible on the counter.
