Setting up or creating an environment where you can feel comfortable, relaxed and at the same time ready to concentrate is not always an easy task. There are too many distracting elements, at first glance it can be little light, whether natural or artificial, walls with strongly saturated colors, textures or coverings that do not provide favorable acoustics, in addition, the combination of coverings in the place does not achieve cohesion that results in a comfortable space. The choice of furniture is another additional challenge, the variety of styles, colors and dimensions are an equation that must be resolved considering the function of the space as the main objective, but we also want versatile spaces that can adapt to certain activities that occur sporadically. In view of all these variants, what is the master recipe for designing a comfortable space? We are going to present three necessary tips to consider when creating a space, whether for work, rest, entertainment or eating.

1. Light:

Le Corbusier said: “architecture is a masterful, perfect and admirable game of masses that meet under light” Contrary to what many believe, light is the first variable condition that influences when designing a space. Although natural light is the main source of lighting par excellence, today artificial light has gained more ground due to its advantages: it is easier to control, it is constant, it is precise and its color, direction or intensity can be used at will. Despite all this, natural light offers us sensations impossible to achieve with other elements, it gives us warmth, charm and spontaneity with respect to illuminated objects. This is why those spaces for relaxation, entertainment or activities that do not require concentration can be positioned where sunlight reaches them. And those spaces where you must work, study, have meetings or simply concentrate, it is preferable to illuminate them with artificial sources, adjusting the intensities, color temperatures and location.

2. Texture/Color:

2. Texture/color: With texture we talk about coatings, each coating, whether porcelain, wood, carpet, etc., tells us and tells us about different temperatures and sensations. For that reason we must consider the purpose of the space and use textures appropriate to the space. A relaxation space can easily be covered with wood that provides warmth, rugs that delimit and contain the users of the place. On the other hand, a balanced workspace can contain wooden floors and glass walls that facilitate the path of light, the delimitation of spaces, and a medium level of privacy. In this way we will achieve, for example, a comfortable office that promotes concentration. Color is directly related to textures since even woods have different colors and provide different messages. But basically the color of walls and objects should be the result of the purpose of the space. The choice of colors should be defined if the space is an office, a break area or a meeting room.
