ACHS case: how they chose the Axis chair by testing it in their real work day
The ACHS risk prevention team tested the Axis chair on its real day and stuck with it. This is how you organize a chair test in your company.
By Leonardo Bianchi, CEO at Dunati

In the ACHS (Chilean Safety Association) project in Providencia, Santiago, the risk prevention team tested the Axis chair during their actual work day and chose to keep it. The space was completed with desks from the Versa series and Steelbox storage, with a youthful and modern concept: a mix of colors, minimalist finishes and spaces that facilitate teamwork.
That way of choosing is what we recommend for any eight-hour chair: with the desk, the screen and the rhythm of each day, not ten minutes in a display case.
What was equipped in the ACHS project?
Three families from the Dunati catalogue:
| Part | Series | What does he bring to the position? |
|---|---|---|
| Silla ergonómica | Axis | Mecanismo sincrónico con 3 posiciones de bloqueo, asiento regulable en profundidad, apoyo lumbar regulable, brazos 2D, respaldo en malla y ruedas de poliuretano; cabecero opcional |
| Escritorios | Versa | 25 mm MDF cover with high pressure decorative laminate and 1.5 mm steel triangular profile structure with electrostatic paint; lengths of 100 to 200 cm, depth of 60 or 70 cm and height of 75 cm, in individual format or in groups of positions |
| Almacenamiento | Steelbox | La cajonera de la serie es móvil, de 1 cajón y 1 kardex, con cuerpo metálico y frontales laminados; 38 × 50 cm y 54 cm de alto, para que quepa bajo la cubierta |

The concept mixes colors with minimalist finishes. The concept sought a youthful and modern look, and for the positions to facilitate work between people on the same team.
Why is a risk prevention team a good judge of a chair?
Because their job is to see how people feel throughout the day, not just the first moment. A chair for eight hours is judged at the sixth hour: there you can see if the lumbar is still in place, if the arms fit with the desk and if the mesh ventilates in the afternoon. When you choose a team that is dedicated to that, the decision is made with the right criteria: how the chair responds in real use.
Why is the Axis good for a full day?
For three adjustments that are noticeable after several hours sitting:
- Synchronous mechanism. The seat and backrest tilt together and in proportion, so the person can recline to read or talk on the phone without the seat pushing them forward. The 3 locking positions allow it to be left fixed for writing.
- Adjustable seat depth. It is the adjustment that is most forgotten and the one that matters the most in a team with different heights. With the seat at the correct depth, your back reaches the backrest without the edge of the seat pressing behind your knees.
- Adjustable lumbar. The support is raised or lowered to the curve of each back. A fixed lumbar fits the average person well and is short or long for everyone else.
If you add to that the mesh backrest, which ventilates on a summer afternoon, and the 2D arms that adjust to the height of the desk, you are left with a chair that adapts to the person instead of asking you to adapt to them. The Axis is certified ANSI/BIFMA X5.1 according to its technical sheet, and has a 3-year warranty.
Why testing the chair in real time is the best way to choose?
Ten minutes sitting shows whether a chair is comfortable, not whether it supports your back throughout the day. In a sales room, the obvious is discarded: a seat that is too deep, a backrest that does not support, arms that do not lower enough. What is tiring appears later, with your own desk, the screen at your height and the daily meetings.
For the test to be useful, three things should be taken care of:
- Adjust the chair completely on the first day.Height, depth, lumbar, arms and tension of the backrest. A poorly adjusted chair looks bad, and most people never touch a lever if no one shows them how.
- Choose who is tested by contrast. The tallest and shortest people on the team, and who spends the most hours on the computer. If it works for them, it works for the rest.
- Ask at the end of the day, not at the beginning. What was bothersome after four hours, what had to be adjusted again, if the arms collided with the desk.
What costs little to resolve before and much later: the height of the arms with respect to the deck. With 75 cm desks like the Versa, it is advisable to verify in the test that the arms go down enough for the chair to fit under the cover.
How do Versa desks combine with the chosen chair?
The Versa series works in individual formats and in front or side groups of 2 to 6 seats, which allows islands to be set up for teams that sit together. At ACHS the idea was precisely that: positions that facilitate teamwork. The Steelbox chest of drawers goes under the cover, with wheels, so that each person has their own storage space without taking up a work surface.
The covers are manufactured in Chile; The metal structures are imported and the chairs are assembled in Chile with imported components. Desks and storage have a 5-year warranty.
What can be learned from this case for another office?
- Let the chair be chosen by whoever is going to use it., or the team that takes care of the health of those who are going to use it, and that the test is in the real position.
- Let the settings matter more than the design.Seat depth and adjustable lumbar solve more than any finish.
- Let the space accompany the way of working. If the team collaborates, group desks help more than isolated positions.
- Let the color not fight with the order.A mix of colors with sober finishes gives a space with personality that does not look overloaded.
Which chair did ACHS choose?
The Axis, an ergonomic chair with a synchronous mechanism, adjustable seat depth and adjustable lumbar support. Their risk prevention team tested it during the actual work day and chose to keep it.
What other furniture does the project have?
Versa series desks and Steelbox storage, in a space with a mix of colors and minimalist finishes, in Providencia, Santiago.
Can you test a chair before buying it for the entire company?
Yes. Dunati lends chairs to companies to evaluate them before purchasing; coordinates with the advisor in each case.
What warranty do Axis and Versa desktops have?
The chairs have a 3-year warranty; desks and storage, 5 years. The legal guarantee runs separately.
Are there spare parts for the Axis?
Yes. Dunati maintains armrests, mechanism, backrest with mesh, star base, wheels and pistons for the Axis, so after the warranty the part is changed and not the chair.
Where can you see the Axis?
In the showroom at Av. Vitacura 6577, Vitacura, Santiago, which is open from Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The visit can be coordinated by WhatsApp at +56 9 8583 5709.
